Jan. 18 – The Road to Big Eye Mine
This morning we got an early start, we had a long trip planned! We turned the Jeepster south on the pavement and east onto the gravel Castle Dome Road. We were headed to the Big Eye Mine on a 15 mile one-way dirt road meandering around mountains, saguaro forests, in and out of washes and finally into a canyon where the mine is located.

Not sure I’m up for 15 miles one way road…..But would like to visit this mine.
We have heard of several sleeping caves & cabins in this area.
2 are somewhere near Gray Tank. We did do Horse tank in late Dec. when we were here before. That’s when we were camped along Palm Canyon rd. and found the fascinating Wheel of Life (Medicine wheel) and the Skull cave.
Love this area. !

Hi, Thanks for the comments. I found your blog and it seems you’ve explored Kofa more than us! We used to ride our dual sport bikes here, but I fell one too many times! Now we’re using the Jeepster for better access, but we haven’t found many maps or guides to this area.
