Time to look for a Welsh Castle! We headed to one of the closest in South Wales.
Newton House at Dinefwr Park.
Oops, not the ‘castle’, but the newer estate house built in the 1660’s and remodeled during Queen Victoria’s reign, 1837-1901.
On the grounds of the estate is this painting of a cattle breed developed here about 1000 years ago!
The White Park cattle were not out in the fields that we could see anyway. So we went looking for the castle ruins.
We walked up the hill overlooking the Newton House estate, through what we dubbed ‘Sherwood Forest’.
We found the castle ruins at the top of the hill with commanding views over the valley.
The round turret is where the master of the castle lived.
This castle has ancient origins and was built and rebuilt through the centuries. This version is from medieval times.
