Aug. 5 – The Mothership

The Jupiter, the Mothership to the fishing boat the Mars.

Captain “Lady Jo” at the helm.

I took the Jupiter to McHenry Anchorage while the guys took the Mars upĀ  Burnett Inlet to fish. They limited out!!!!!

A cooler full of Coho (mostly).

Aug. 4 – Tow Boat

The sea was flat and the sun was shining!

We rounded the top of Prince of Wales Island and had the sunniest day so far of our visit to Alaska!

Aug. 4 – Fish On!

The fishing boat was in tow with 2 fishermen aboard and fish jumping all over the place! There were whales in the distance feeding along a reef near shore. The sun was poking a few holes in the high clouds and low fog. Occasionally the mountains of distant islands were visible above the fog, then disappeared into the haze like mirages. The water was flat and a lone sea otter bobbed by, wrapped in kelp to help him keep afloat.

Just a trout sized salmon.

Aug. 4 – One Night’s Anchorage

Early morning mist.

Aug. 3 – Bear Sighting

While motoring through the narrow El Capitan channel we spotted a black bear grazing along the bank.

Apparently there are no brown bears on Prince of Wales Island.

Narrow passage!
