A real test of the Jeepster! We took her out the MST&T tower road that we are parked near, then onto the 4WD road past Red Hill Tank and Jasper Spring (neither of which we saw!). We drove her almost across the width of Kofa, then took the Pipeline road (along the powerlines) back, almost 60 miles round trip! What a bumpy, rattling, banging, bouncing, dusty, warm, sunny fabulous time we had!
Really BIG Country! Can you spot the Jeepster in the left?
Local wildlife crossing the road.
Kofa cabin, built by the CCC in the late 30’s. Half of it is open to the public to visit or camp overnight.
A woodstove and some firewood help out. The cabin was very clean too!
And what western cabin doesn’t have playing cards? And highbrow tea too!

The reason for the long stay at Lake Mead wasn’t just because of the weather, it was a great place to ride out the nationwide freezing temperatures though. The microclimate by the lake was pretty pleasant comparatively. We wanted to stay close to Las Vegas to catch a show by our favorite group of the undead; “Here Come The Mummies”! We were waiting out the last storm in Beatty and Robert checked out their website and saw that they would be in Las Vegas tonight! So we got tickets and a room at Bally’s because they are on The Strip and have big-rig parking behind the building for our camper. A walk of less than a mile brought us to the Hard Rock Cafe where they performed and we had a BLAST!
The anticipation before the band came onstage!
What a horn section!
The climax!
