El Golfo, Mexico Feb. 8
From Feb. 5 to 12 we camped at a small RV park / Cantina in El Golfo, Mexico. Here are some scenes from around the fishing village of about 5000 people.

Old fishing boats are still useful, in this case as a breakwater against the high tide!

El Golfo is a village in a virtually colorless desert. The most colorful place in town seems to be the cemetery, with all the flowers covering the graves and the brightly painted mausoleums. This sculpture of dolphins is decorating the tomb of a fisherman I would guess.

Being a true fishing village, the launching and retrieving of the fishing boats was a daily event. The catch of the day seemed to be shrimp, but I would assume there are seasons for other fishes too.
Mexican Interlude Feb. 5
On Feb. 5th we drove to El Golfo de Santa Clara, Mexico with our friends Glen and Barb (from British Columbia) to spend a week on the shore of the Sea of Cortez. Glen and Barb have been there many times and were indispensable as guides, amigos, and compaƱeros de viaje (fellow travelers). They took us on many rides on the beach in their jeep to sightsee and collect shells and memories.

Where desert meets sea.

Some sections of beach were passable only at low tide. We were there during a full moon and tides could be up to 17 feet, rendering this section under water at high tide! Gulls and Pelicans rested on the beach.
Swimming Lessons
In late August Mavrik got swimming lessons in the canal.

Property Additions
It wasn’t all fun and games over the summer. We worked hard on additions at the property as well as some outside work for neighbors. With the Terry Trailer we also purchased the carport it was under. It will keep the Bigfoot shaded in the summer and the Terry Trailer protected from the elements in the winter.

Summer Flowers
Beautiful summer flowers at Mark & Sue’s house.
