December 28, 2021 Barge Inn
We headed to Newport’s Historic Bayfront to check out the Barge Inn.

As the bartender advertises: “Home of the Winos, Dingbats and Riff Raff”!

The real Dingbat!!

On this cool, blustery day we went to neighboring Nye Beach to walk around and enjoy the holiday atmosphere. We parked at the Don & Ann Davis Park on the bluff above Ocean Shore State Recreation Area and were treated to an aerial display!
A paraglider taking advantage of the on-shore breezes!
We had a wonderful siting today. At around 4pm we saw some movement through the small fir forest in the back and spotted this Barred Owl perched on a tree about 30 feet down the hill from the picture window.Cropping the picture made it a little fuzzy, but you can see the ‘bars’ on the chest, rather than the ‘spots’ on the chest of his more secretive cousin the Spotted Owl.
Did the tide take the sand out, or bring the pebbles in? All we know is they weren’t visible here yesterday!
The beach is usually sandy as far as you can see both north and south!
I got into the Christmas spirit and got the window decorations and Christmas tree taken care of in one ‘garden flag’!
No messy needles all over the floor, other than the ones we track in on our shoes from the fir trees all around us!
